It's easy to get excited about buying a new dishwasher. It usually starts with a visit to friends who show off their brand new dishwasher with all sorts of gadgets and Wi-Fi connectivity. But then you start digging and discover that the dishwasher market is crowded with all sorts of brands, models and styles, many of which look the same but are offered at very different prices. Some modern dishwashers you may not even recognise, especially if you haven't been around for a while. That's because technology has changed dramatically over the last few years.
1) Cleaning performance
This is what it's all about. All the stylish design, durability, and special features don't mean much if the dishwasher doesn't wash dishes efficiently. There are plenty of dishwashers these days, from cheap to ultra-expensive, and many across this range will give you the cleaning performance you're looking for. However, you will come across a lot of additional features in the market that can enhance the washing performance for a more reliable and thorough dishwashing. For example, some dishwashers come with a concentrated sprayer for washing sports bottles and other types of glasses. You can even find dishwashers with specially designed cycles with a powerful spray to get rid of baked-on grease and food.
2) Drying performance
It's not just critical for a dishwasher to wash dishes - that's only half the job. It also needs to dry them efficiently. To this point, think of a situation where you opened the dishwasher and found that the dishes were still completely wet. It's a frustrating experience that makes you have to dry each piece by hand. As a result, a dishwasher that can't dry efficiently isn't worth much.
3) Quiet performance
Given that kitchens are oriented towards open floor plans and are usually located near a relaxation zone, a noisy dishwasher is not a sensible choice. Fortunately, there are plenty of options available that offer impressively quiet operation. You just have to be aware of decibel levels and know how it will affect your budget.
4) Cycles and options
Those who haven't yet embarked on market research may be wondering what exactly the different dishwasher cycles do. How do they differ from one another? Basically, there are three main variables between each cycle:
Cycle length Water temperature Intensity (water pressure and amount of water used)
5) Smart dishwashers with WIFI connection
Over time, more and more high-tech and additional convenience features are being built into dishwashers and other home appliances. Many of the newer high-end models are equipped with wireless connectivity, but how to use this connectivity varies from brand to brand and model to model.
