The smell of sweets can conjure up the right autumn atmosphere indoors. As we begin our preparations for Christmas, take inspiration from us for a healthier version of this sweet treat that no Christmas table can do without.

Candy does not make "pretty" bodies

Christmas sweets are full of sugar, white flour and often not very good fats. When you eat it, you can feel the goodness settling in your fat pads. White flour contains almost no nutritional value and does not provide the body with the necessary substances such as vitamins, minerals and fibre. If you add frosting unwanted pounds are in for the world. Fortunately, there's also a healthier alternative to this sweet treat.

There's another way

There's a healthier version of candy, too, and you don't have to give up some favorites. Just use honey or natural syrup instead of white sugar. Unlike white sugar, honey contains trace amounts of some B vitamins, vitamin C and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus, potassium and iron. Another advantage of honey is its higher sweetness, so you can use only 4 parts of it in candy versus 5 parts of sugar.

Instead of white, bake with spelt flour, which is easily digestible. If you are gluten intolerant you can also use corn or rice flour. Instead of low-quality fat, use olive oil or finely ground nuts, which contain health-promoting unsaturated fatty acids, omega-3 and omega-9, and vitamin E.

You can't do without toppings

The best candy topping is icing, which is used to finish almost most types of candy. If you have already baked a dough with lightened ingredients, try frosting as well. You can limit the sugar intake by choosing a good quality jam that contains lots of fruit. For a chocolate topping, use good quality dark chocolate or cocoa.
