In a medium sized bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar and brown sugar until you get a smooth, fluffy mixture. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Stir in the vanilla by hand. In a small separate bowl, add the baking soda to the hot water, stir and let it dissolve. Add the baking powder mixture to the batter. Stir in the salt. Finally, carefully mix in your flour, chocolate chips and nuts by hand to create a thick, chunky dough.
Take a large spoon and use it to make large balls of dough. Place them onto an ungreased, lined baking sheet and press down on them lightly with your fingers.
Bake your cookies for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven or until the edges turn a nice, golden brown color. Make sure you do not overbake them or else they will lose their softness. Scoop them up with a heat-proof spatula and leave them to cool completely on a wire rack. Enjoy!
