Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Pour in the macaroni and cook them until they are al dente.
Meanwhile, take a 9x13 inch baking dish and stir in it the shredded Cheddar cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream and Parmesan cheese. Season the mixture with salt and freshly ground black pepper according to your taste.
Drain the macaroni and immediately pour them into the baking dish with the cheese mixture. Give the mixture a good stir, allowing the cheese to melt from the heat of the pasta.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium-low or medium heat, taking care not to let it burn or brown excessively.
In a small bowl, mix together the bread crumbs and melted butter. Sprinkle the topping over the macaroni mixture in your baking dish.
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and let the macaroni bake for approximately 30 to 35 minutes or until the top becomes beautifully crisp and golden. Serve immediately.
