This baked ziti is literally a celebration of Italian cheese - just imagine what will happen to your taste buds when sweet and nutty Provolone cheese, fruity yet peppery Parmesan cheese and soft, milk...
Cook your ziti pasta in a large pot of boiling, lightly salted water for about 8 minutes or until al dente. Drain the pasta, cover the pot with a lid and set aside for a moment while you prepare your meat sauce.
Take a large skillet and fry in it the onion and ground beef over medium heat until the mixture browns. Pour over the spaghetti sauce, mix thoroughly and let your meat sauce simmer slowly for about 15 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350°F/175°C.
Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish and start layering your ingredients in it. Start by spreading half of the cooked ziti over the bottom of the baking dish. Cover the pasta evenly with the Provolone cheese slices. Spread the sour cream in an even layer over the Provolone cheese. Pour over half of your meat sauce. Layer over the remaining ziti, sprinkle the pasta with the shredded mozzarella cheese and pour over the remaining meat sauce. Finally, sprinkle the top with the grated Parmesan cheese.
Place the baking dish in your preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes or until all the cheeses have melted to create a lovely golden, bubbling crust.
